SOAP is a simple method for reading and applying God's word to our lives. SOAP stands for SCRIPTURE, OBSERVATION, APPLICATION and PRAYER.  Use a journal (or your phone / tablet / computer) to work your way through these four simple steps:

1. SCRIPTURE
Read a Bible passage – (refer below for verses for the week)
2. OBSERVATION
Write down what do you notice about the verses? What do you think the main message is? What verses, words or ideas jump out to you?
3. APPLICATION
Ask God how He wants you to apply the verse to your own life and write it down.
4. PRAYER
Pray for yourself and/or for others and write your prayer points down.

Why not write a letter to a younger version of yourself.
  • What would you say to a younger you now that you know what you’ve faced?
  • Over the next 7 days, write one sentence to a younger you while reflecting on where you’ve been.

In an online devotional by Hal White entitled You Are What You Think, she says;
Experts say that we understand vastly more about the human brain than we used to—but we still know very little. The brain is still one of God’s great mysteries.
For example:
  • There are about 100 billion neurons in the human brain, the same number of stars in our galaxy
  • The slowest speed information travels between neurons is 260 mph.
  • The energy used by the brain is enough to light a 25-watt bulb.
  • The average number of thoughts that humans are believed to experience each day is 70,000.
Wow! No wonder the Bible has so much to say about our thought life. We all struggle with negative thoughts and emotions at times. That’s why Scripture repeatedly urges us to change our thinking and to renew our minds.

16th May
Philippians 4:8
Hal White highlights Amy Morin’s work in LifeHack, wherein she suggests a number of traits mentally strong people avoid here’s one of them:
  • Avoid spending energy on things you can’t control. Mentally strong people don’t complain about bad situations beyond their control. They recognize the one thing they can always control is their own attitude.

17th May
2 Corinthians 4:16
Hal White highlights Amy Morin’s work in LifeHack, wherein she suggests a number of traits mentally strong people avoid here’s one of them:
  • Avoid dwelling on the past. There is strength in acknowledging the past, especially in things learned from the past. . . but a mentally strong person avoids letting past mistakes define them.

18th May
Ephesians 4:23
Hal White highlights Amy Morin’s work in LifeHack, wherein she suggests a number of traits mentally strong people avoid here’s one of them:
  • Avoid resenting other people’s success. It takes strength of character to genuinely feel joy and excitement for other people’s success.

19th May
Philippians 4:6-7
Hal White highlights Amy Morin’s work in LifeHack, wherein she suggests a number of traits mentally strong people avoid here’s one of them:
  • Avoid giving up after failure. Every failure is a chance for improvement.

20th May
Colossians 3:2
Hal White highlights Amy Morin’s work in LifeHack, wherein she suggests a number of traits mentally strong people avoid here’s one of them:
  • Avoid worrying about pleasing others. Know any people pleasers?  People who go out of their way to please others? Who want approval? People who are mentally strong are able to withstand the possibility that someone will get upset with them, even if they speak up.
